Crossing the Coast: Norlys Kystlinjen's Journey Through 2026

The fjord stretched before us, a silver ribbon between mountains and sky. As the morning fog lifted, we saw our ship approaching, her silhouette cutting a clean line through the mist. This was more than a journey; it was a connection between communities, between dreams and reality.

In 2026, we carried 6.1 million passengers across 34 routes. Each story, each journey, began with a single call to the harbor.

Methodology Notes

1 Emissions calculated per passenger-kilometre using fuel consumption data from all 21 vessels.

2 Diesel emissions include direct combustion and upstream processing. Hybrid figures based on average electric grid mix in Norway (CO2: 20 g/kWh).

3 Electric vessels have zero direct emissions; lifecycle emissions calculated at 8 g/kWh for battery production and disposal.

*Note: Figures exclude emissions from port operations, crew flights, and upstream supply chain activities beyond fuel.*

Letter from the CEO

Dear Colleagues and Stakeholders,

The year 2026 has been a landmark journey for Norlys Kystlinjen. As we navigate the complexities of coastal transport in an evolving world, I am proud to report that we have not only met our operational targets but exceeded them in meaningful ways.

Our 6.1 million passengers this year represent more than mere statistics. They are journeys made possible by dedicated crews, reliable vessels, and infrastructure that connects communities along our extensive coastal network. The route map shows just a fraction of what we achieve daily—connecting fjords to fjords, cities to fjord villages, tourists to timeless landscapes.

The financial strength of the business—revenue of 2.28 billion Norwegian kroner—has allowed us to invest in the future. Our hybrid fleet expansion, now comprising 32% of vessels, demonstrates our commitment to sustainable operations. The transition to electric propulsion for our shorter routes is ahead of schedule, and this is no small achievement given the technical challenges involved.

I want to acknowledge the challenges we faced. Fuel price volatility in Q2 required swift cost management. Port congestion in Oslo and Bergen tested our scheduling algorithms. Yet our 94.5% on-time performance speaks to our resilience.

Looking ahead to 2027, we will launch five new electric ferries, bringing our electric fleet to 25% of total vessels. This aligns with our commitment to reduce emissions per passenger-kilometre by 30% by 2030. The sustainability section details our methodology and progress.

Our board and management team have worked tirelessly to ensure Norlys Kystlinjen is positioned for the decades ahead. The governance section outlines our structure and the values that guide our decisions.

Together, we are building more than a transport service. We are building connections that matter.
