A command line tool for git

Navigate history
like a lattice.

Lattice turns your commit graph into a place you can move through. Jump to any node, walk the lanes between branches, and return home without memorising a single hash.

The idea

History has structure. Lattice keeps it.

Every commit sits on a lane. Lanes merge, fork and rejoin, and the tool remembers the geometry. You stop thinking in abbreviations and start thinking in position.

  • goto Move to a node by hash, message, or lane. No abbreviations to guess.
  • lanes See every path through the current region, drawn as parallel tracks.
  • back Return home to where you started. Lattice remembers your origin automatically.
  • here Anchor your position in the graph, with distance and neighbours shown.

Commands

Four verbs. Nothing else.

Lattice refuses to be a second git. It does one thing — orientation — and does it quietly.

01

Spatial memory

Your place is never lost. Step away for a week and lattice here still knows exactly where you were.

02

Lane-aware

Merges and forks are first class. Walk along a branch as a continuous path instead of a list of commits.

03

Non-destructive

Lattice only reads and moves. It never rewrites history, never touches your refs, never surprises you.

04

Instant

A single static binary. Sub-millisecond jumps, even on repositories with millions of commits.

05

Scriptable

Every command emits plain text and machine-readable JSON. Compose it in shell, tmux or your editor.

06

Zero config

Works the moment you drop it on your PATH. Tune colours, layout and behaviour only if you want to.

Install

One binary. Your PATH.

$ lattice --version

Stable release, signed. macOS, Linux and Windows, x64 and arm64.

$ curl -fsSL lattice.sh/install | sh

Prefer a package manager? brew install lattice, cargo install lattice, or download the signed tarball.
